The Neighbors Foundation came into being through the efforts of a number of dedicated people who realized that caring and sharing have to be part of the life of any worthwhile community.
In 1972 members of the Island's Rotary Club learned of the seemingly insurmountable problems of a family and enlisted the help of people of the Island through an appeal in the local paper.
The response was so widespread and gratifying, a non-profit, charitable corporation was formed to handle the original case and deal with any future needs. A Board of Directors was chosen with representatives from Island service organizations, businesses and churches. Officers were elected from this group.
This all-volunteer concept is still the structure of the organization today. Any interested Grand Island resident is invited to assist in the projects and become active in the organization.
Over five decades later, the Neighbors Foundation continues to serve Grand Island families quietly and confidentially — one neighbor at a time.
